What KinPath collects

Nothing. KinPath has no server and no account system. The developer cannot see your family tree, because it never leaves your device.

Where what you enter is stored

Everything you create in the app — names, gender, years of birth and death, cities, sibling rank, notes, photos, and the relationships between people — is stored in a database local to your iPhone, protected by the iOS application sandbox. This includes:

• Records of family members and the relationships between them
• Avatar photos you pick from your library, downscaled and stored locally
• Which person is marked as you

If you use iCloud Backup or back your iPhone up through iTunes or Finder, this data is included in that system backup. That is performed by iOS under Apple's terms; KinPath neither participates in nor controls it.

How kinship titles are calculated

Chinese kinship titles are computed entirely offline on the device using relationship.js, an MIT-licensed open-source library bundled with the app. No family data is uploaded in order to calculate a title.

Locations

The optional country/region → administrative area → city cascade is offline data bundled with the app; choosing a location makes no network request. KinPath does not access your location and never asks for location permission.

Photos

KinPath accesses your photo library only when you choose a photo for a person, and reads only the image you select. It is cropped to a square, re-encoded, and stored alongside the app's own database. It is never uploaded.

Backup files

You can export the whole family tree to a JSON file. Where that file goes is entirely your decision — Files, a message to yourself, or a cloud service you choose. Once the file leaves the app it is governed by the privacy policy of whatever service you put it in, not by this one.

Analytics and tracking

None. KinPath contains no analytics SDK, no advertising SDK, no crash-reporting service, and no third-party tracking code. The app makes no network requests of its own.

Children

KinPath collects no data from anyone, including children under 13.

Deleting your data

Delete people and relationships inside the app, or delete KinPath from your iPhone — removing the app removes its local database and photos with it. There is no copy on the developer's side to request the deletion of, because no copy was ever made.

Changes to this policy

If KinPath ever gains a feature that changes any of these answers, this page will be updated first, with a new date above.
